1st Lesson – Photoshop Introduction
Hello
Let us begin with the 1st lesson.
Photoshop is mainly used for image processing that includes photo retouching, editing, applying special effects etc. Digital image is made up of pixels and these pixels can be selected, colored and edited separately in Photoshop. Photoshop is a raster program where all the operations are based on the pixels hence it is the most suitable program for image processing.
You do not really require artistic background to learn Photoshop. It comes up with its own tools and commands making it easy to draw, edit and retouch the images. If you have artistic background it will be definitely useful but it’s not at all essential.
Photoshop can be used for photo retouching as well as creating the artwork from the scratch. It is also used as a useful tool for making backgrounds and materials for animation softwares. Web graphics is another wide area where it is exclusively used.
Today in this lesson we are going to get the feel of working in Photoshop with very simple commands.
1. Open Photoshop.
2. File > Open.
3. Open any image. Do not choose very plain image or you will not see any changes. Try some photograph.

4. Make sure that Image > Mode > RGB is selected. This will activate most of the Photoshop commands.
5. Filter > Artistic > Cutout

6. Do not make any changes in the dialogue box. Check out the preview. Click OK.
7. Press ctrl+Z to undo the effect and go for the next filter.
8. Keep on applying filters and undo it.
9. Do not save the image while exit.
I believe this small lesson will not take more than 15 minutes. We are going to start with the Photoshop desktop in the next lesson. Thanks for your time.
